Sheep Section

Margaret Wood, Sheep Section Secetary, writes:

Preparations are well underway for the 2018 show; following the outstanding success of the first show in our new location, we look forward to welcoming you all for the 87th show to be held on June 16th 2018.
As always, there are facilities for MV accredited and non MV sheep. Zwartble and Beltex sections enjoyed a great start last year and we build on that success. After many requests and as a result at an increase in their popularity at recent shows and sales, Derbyshire Gritstone Classes are back on the programme. In order to achieve competition, we must have a minimum of 3 exhibitors. Quite a few people have already registered an interest and our show was well renowned in the past for its fantastic lines of Gritstone sheep.
We have some great sponsors who never fail to support our sheep classes and new ones are very welcome. If you fancy sponsoring something in the sheep section please contact me,(details on schedule) ,there are various options and packages available. A popular option is to sponsor just one or two classes.

2017 Show Report

Thank you to all exhibitors who supported us in 2017 in our first show on the new field. We look forward to seeing you again in 2018 for the 87th Todmorden Agricultural at the same venue.

The weather was glorious and the judges were very pleased with the high quality of the sheep, all helping to make the first show at Cliviger one to remember. Lonk and Texel sections were extremely well supported and the new Zwartble and Beltex sections did well for their first year. The Beltex judge in particular was very pleased with the sheep in his section. Butchers’ lambs were down, which we put down mainly to show being early and the lambing season in this area late.

There are requests to reinstate the Derbyshire Gritstone classes and our committee will make a decision later in the year. These sheep are local to the region and are enjoying an increase in numbers so it would be great to see them represented again.

May I remind trophy winners that they are held for one year and must be returned by May 31st 2018 to either Alec, Margaret or Stephensons Animal Feeds?

Some results:
Tim West of Todmorden achieved 1st and second with Beltex ram lambs and 2nd with an ewe shearling. Any locals out there with sheep to show are very welcome next year!
